Transitions, Visitors and a New Floor

Rochelle safely returned to the US mid-June and our team in Ometepe are still giddy over the many blessings brought to the island by the Godey Family & friends.  See below for details.

For the remaining summer months, we will be spending more time with family & friends along the East Coast as TJ continues to transition his “day job” to the Carolinas. It’s our intention to remain active in the Cocoa Beach, FL community and home church,
FUMCCB. It’s a wild ride and we appreciate your prayers for us and especially for our kids during the next few months.

As with many parts of the world, Nicaragua is currently undergoing a lot of change. As a grass-roots organization, we feel blessed with the ability to quickly adjust and be patient when needed. Our strategic partnerships & local staff are doing outstanding job opening new doors for opportunity and serving those most in need.

One HUGE need is for basic medical care & diagnostics on the island. Plans are in place to coordinate a community Medical Clinic in February, 2024. If you are (or were) in the medical profession and interested in helping to coordinate/serve with the Medical Clinic, contact Rochelle.

June team community visit

GODEY TEAM VISIT TO NICA

Thank you to the Godey family & friends who visited Ometepe Island (and OBGM) in June 6 - 9. It was the second time Jim and his daughter Cate volunteered with us in Ometepe, but this time they brought some friends and heaps of donations. Their impact will continue through July with a second community outreach with their remaining donations in the works

The team of eight (8) spent a lot of quality time alongside our college scholars, ESL students, micro-loan participants and community schools. See below photos for more.

WELCOME NEW COLLEGE STUDENTS

Congratulations to two of our newest college scholars, Ana and Ronald. Ana is a first-year law student from Santa Cruz, and Ronald lives in El Corozal and is dual-majoring in physics and mathematics. Each work full-time in Ometepe to help support their family, and attend full-day classes each Saturday off the island at their accredited universities.

BABY ROCHELLE BLESSINGS

Baby Rochelle continues to grow and the family is thrilled with their new roof as shared with you in last month’s update.  With the excess financial support OBGM raised, we will install a concrete floor to the back side of the house and create a new doorway (from the front to back). This will allow for more ventilation and safe space to access the kitchen during this rainy season. This family of women are super grateful for your generosity. More updates to follow.
