Is there a Doctor on the Plane?

We were probably less than a mile from the Managua airport. The plane was rapidly descending. A man in first class was having a medical emergency. The crew asked for a doctor to come forward. Our mission physician, Sherin, rushed forward. As we touched down, Sherin was massaging the person’s chest while nearby passengers were holding her, so that she wouldn’t fly forward during the landing. That is when it hit me: GOD has you exactly where you are meant to be.

Sherin was on that plane landing in Nicaragua to conduct a clinic in a remote community on Ometepe Island. God had bigger plans for her. Over the next 4 days, she and the other staff treated 140 patients (see above video). After the clinic was over, we went to a local elementary school. When she asked the young students what they wanted to be, one little girl said she wanted to be a doctor. The students were excited to find out that she was a doctor! She reminded them to complete their studies, and perhaps they could become doctors someday too. Hope and inspiration are wonderful gifts.

Sherin and our mission pharmacist, Jim, also blessed a local business by staying at Playa Casa Nohelia. Nohelia's story was in the last newsletter. The final outcome of weeks of effort can be seen in the below video.

So many people from around the world and in the local community stepped up to make this latest visit a successful one. God is good.

For I know the plans I have for you, declares the Lord,
plans for welfare and not for evil, to give you a future and a hope
— Jeremiah 29:11

HELP THE SINTIOPE PRIMARY SCHOOL
For years, our kids' English program has been held at a community primary school named "Escuelita Sintiope." This school is home to 143 students from grades pre-K to 6. Most kids are from families who earn less than $2/day, and some arrive to class shoeless.

Each year we allocate a small budget for basic supplies but the impact to the community could be much greater if the school had an internet connection. The PTO is taking up a collection each month to contribute towards a connection and we would like to make up the difference. This only $66 per month. Whether you support this project monthly or a give one-time gift, 100% of your donation will go to support this school.

For your sponsorship, you will receive periodic updates and maybe one day, be inspired to visit and volunteer with us!

GINA FROM GERMANY

More on how God has you exactly where you are meant to be...

Last month we shared how Josh helped to raise support to finish Nohelia's bathroom. But another blessing just appeared in the form of a young girl visiting Latin America from Germany. Her name was Gina and she was looking to trade her artist gifts in exchange for a place to stay for a few days on the island. Rochelle stumbled upon her and the rest can be seen in the below video.
